Hagalaz

Hagalaz represents hail – a temporary difficulty or delay. Disruption is a necessary part of life, it creates change and evolution.

It’s easy to get frustrated at a delay or lack of progress, but you’re better off to use this time for rest and contemplation rather than to try to rush headlong through the storm.

Tiwaz

Tiwaz represents the god Tyr who sacrificed his hand to the great wolf Fenrir in order to save the Aesir.

The story teaches us that “opposition must be faced squarely and with courage” (Mountfort).

Naudhiz

Naudhiz represents need – distress and struggle but also coming through it. Thorsson describes it as the “stepping-forth-into-manifestation”

It is a prompt to face issues we may be ignoring.

SUMMARY

The cards this week seem to be contradicting each other. Hagalaz tells you to stop and seek shelter while Tiwaz encourages you to be strong and face your obstacles.

Naudhiz is a warning to face something you’ve buried in order to pass through this period of conflict. So, what have you been hiding deep inside? It is within this exploration that you will find your answer.

If you’re always hustling and feel discomfort at the thought of taking a break, turn inward and ask yourself why you need to be perpetually in motion. How would you feel if you stopped pushing? What would happen if you were forced to stop by sickness or other unavoidable difficulty? Really explore what emotions that brings up for you.

On the other hand, if you find that you always stay in sheltered safety for fear of a storm, dig into that resistance to change and see if you can push outside of your comfort zone a little more. Is there something you’ve been holding yourself back from out of fear of failure? Remember there isn’t a single successful person who has never failed along the way.

Action

There is no courage without vulnerability. I challenge you this week to get really vulnerable with yourself and figure out what it is you’re afraid of.

Make a list of all the things that keep you up at night, the things that really make you sweat. Then sit with your fears.

Fear is a part of life and it will never go away, so it’s important to get comfortable with fear and be able to recognize when it serves you (gut feelings to steer you away from danger), and when it hinders you (creating excuses to not take risks).

Hustlers: What is the absolute worst case scenario if you take a break?

Shelterers: What is the absolute worst case scenario if you take a risk?
