Heirloom Jewelry Redesign Canada

You might have a box of old jewelry somewhere—rings, brooches, or maybe a necklace from a loved one that doesn’t quite suit your style. These aren’t just pretty pieces. They’re full of stories, memories, and family history. But what if they don’t fit, are broken, or simply aren’t your taste?

If you thought your only options were to lock the pieces away in a safe or sell them at a pawn shop, I’m here to offer you another choice: heirloom redesign.

What is Heirloom Redesign?

Heirloom jewelry redesign is a creative process where a jeweler takes your old or inherited fine jewelry and transforms it into something new. The goal is to keep those memories close, but also make a piece that’s wearable and suits you. It’s not about melting things down and losing the past. Instead, it’s about celebrating the stories and bringing them forward into your life today.

This isn’t just a repair. It’s a thoughtful transformation. You get to blend old with new and honour your loved ones in a style that matches your own.

Why Choose Heirloom Redesign in Canada?

Canada has a long tradition of passing down fine jewelry through generations. Maybe you’ve inherited your grandmother’s engagement ring, your father’s cufflinks, or a string of pearls from an aunt. Sometimes these treasures end up forgotten, tucked away because they feel too precious to alter, or just don’t fit your life.

Heirloom redesign gives jewelry a fresh purpose. Imagine wearing a modern pendant made from your grandfather’s signet ring. Picture a set of stackable rings that include diamonds from three different generations. In Canada, where families are often spread out and memories are sometimes all we have left, these kinds of remakes mean a lot.

Plus, when you redesign rather than buy new, you’re making a positive environmental choice. Jewels don’t need to be re-mined or shipped from far away. Everything you need is already in your collection. It’s a small but thoughtful step towards sustainability, all while keeping your loved ones’ memories alive.

The Andrea Shelley Approach to Jewelry Redesign

If you’ve decided to explore heirloom jewelry redesign in Canada, the next important step is finding a jeweler who understands how much your pieces mean to you. Lucky for you, you’ve just landed on the website of a jeweler who specializes in heirloom redesign (hiya!).

My name is Andrea Shelley and I’ve been helping clients reclaim their old jewelry for almost a decade. Based in Canada and known for my custom approach, I combine skill, artistry, and empathy from start to finish.

What makes me different isn’t just my technical expertise. I listen to your story and work with you to design something personal and meaningful.

I believe every piece has a story waiting to be told. That’s why I ask about the people, the memories, and how you hope to feel when you wear your new creation.

This holistic approach to jewelry design sets me apart from jewelry stores that treat you like just another transaction.

How the Heirloom Redesign Process Works

Not sure how to start? I’ve made the process simple and comfortable. Here’s how it usually goes:

1. First meeting (virtual)

2. Design Ideas

3. Approval and estimate

4. Redesign in progress

5. Reveal and rediscovery

The best part? You walk away with more than a beautiful item. You gain a daily reminder of your family, your history, and your style, all together in one piece.

Heirloom Redesign Ideas For Your Old Jewelry

Stuck on what you might create? I’ve written a post full of ideas and photos of past projects:

The possibilities really are endless. Your new piece might look nothing like what you started with—or, you may choose to keep certain design elements as a tribute to the original. I’ll help you decide what fits best for you.

Why Trust Andrea Shelley As Your Go-To Canadian Jewelry Designer?

It can feel overwhelming to trust someone with your most precious items. I get that. I’ve worked with clients across Canada who felt nervous at first but were overjoyed with the results.

If you’re on the fence, I always start with a free one-on-one consult so you can get a feel for the process and I can answer any questions you may have.

I’m not here to upsell you or push you into something you don’t want. My only goal is to help you fall in love with your jewelry again and make sure your stories live on.

Here’s what some of my clients have said about working with me:

Andrea took a dated engagement ring that had been sitting in a box since my divorce, and turned it into a stunning piece that I love wearing.
Jenn
Andrea's communication at every stage of the process was amazing! I also loved that she very thoughtfully incorporated my ideas and vision into the piece.
Juliana
I had a beautiful sapphire ring that I never wore because the style didn’t work for my busy active life. I wanted something I could wear every day, not just for special occasions. Andrea gave me 3 amazing options after our consultation and then used my stone to make me a ring I love and can wear every day!
Amanda
Absolutely in love with my new pieces! They were better than I could have ever imagined!

That’s great! The more materials we have to work with, the more possibilities we have for designs. You can choose to make several items or use the gold in any extra pieces as credit towards your project.

I work with any stones that are in good enough condition to be reset. If your stone is heavily abraded, clouded, or chipped, it may not be viable for redesign. I take each project on an individual basis so feel free to reach out and we can take a look at what you have to work with.

Absolutely! The way it works is that the metal in your pieces will be recycled and you’ll get a credit towards your project. That way you can switch from yellow to white gold, rose gold, even platinum if you wish.

It happens quite often that there are more stones in your heirloom jewelry than we decide to use in your new design. While some smaller stones may not be able to be unset safely, any stones that I’m able to save will be sent back to you along with your new piece. You can save these for a future project.

Yes, depending on where in the world you are located, we might be able to work together. It depends on whether I can import your jewelry into Canada without duties or taxes.

I also partner with jewelers in other countries so that the jewelry never has to cross a border. I do the design, and they do the crafting.
